THIS MONTH

This month I started my internship with the New York State Food Lab. During our virtual meeting this month I have been acquainted with the workings of the lab. Our work was focused on understanding the different roles played in the building.

More Details...

Firstly, we began with the overarching goal of the lab. From the website, the food lab's mission is, " to provide expert state of the art analytical testing in support of food safety and security programs and consumer and agricultural interests in New York State." The lab provides testing for Divisions of Food Safety and Inspection, Plant industry, and Milk Control and Dairy Services.

The lab is also linked to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Pesticide Data Program.(PDP) The lab is responsible for performing certain tests and reporting in order to ensure that there is no harmful pesticide residue on agricultural goods.  All of this work will help guide international and statewide markets of food commodities and provide a path for U.S. Food and Drug Administration's work. The end goal of the PCP and Food Lab is to protect citizens that are unaware of harmful products.
